Meaford Harbour 5K
There is a bridge closure on the detour normally used to divert traffic around the downtown core of Meaford. As a result, the police have requested that we alter the Meaford Harbour 5K course to limit the amount of time they will have to close Sykes Street (the highway) to vehicles. The change will affect this year only.
The run/walk will follow the usual route across the Harbour bridge, right turn onto Bayfield Street to Fred Raper Park then left onto Sykes into the downtown core. The diversion will occur at Trowbridge Street (BMO and Scotiabank corner) with a left turn back to the Harbour, across the bridge and an immediate right turn onto Denmark Street. Denmark ends at Edwin Street where we re-join the usual route to the finish line.
Sykes Street will be closed for a short time to allow the front runners to use the road. Slower runners and all walkers are requested to use the sidewalk along Sykes Street to allow the highway to re-open as soon as possible. There will be course marshals at the intersections for your safety and guidance, please follow their directions.
RACE KIT PICK UP!
Come to the Farmer’s Market at the Harbour between 4 and 7 p.m. on Friday, July 7 to pick up your race kit and avoid the mayhem of race day morning. We will hand out bibs, shirts and swag as well as accept new registrations. Of course, we will still do kit pick up and new registrations on race day morning from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m.
START TIME CHANGE!
We have changed the time for the Walkers to start 2 minutes after the Runners. This is for the safety of all and to avoid start line congestion. The Run will start at 9:00 a.m. and the Walk will start at 9:02. We ask all Walkers to keep clear of the start area until after the Runners have left.
WALK, DON’T RUN!
This is a timed event with awards to the top finishers. If you are registered as a Walker, you cannot run at any time during the event. It is not fair to others who abide by the rules and walk the entire course.
NO ANNOYING ANKLETS!
New this year we have timing chips affixed to the bib. No more annoying ankle chips and everyone will record a time.
Thank you all for registering and see you Saturday!
With a record number of 531 participants in 2016 we are encouraging everyone to participate again this year. Please bring along your friends, neighbours and family to help us break another record.
All proceeds raised from this event support the Meaford Hospital Foundation.
The race committee extends their thanks to all sponsors, participants and volunteers who make this event such a resounding success each and every year!
